Our Projects

Everything FAYA builds, funds and teaches on Príncipe

FAYA works on three fronts at once. People are paid for protecting nature, the island gets the infrastructure that makes sustainable choices possible, and the skills to keep both running are built locally. Take one away and the other two stop working.

The Natural Dividend Payment Scheme

Cash transfers to reward environmental stewardship and boost incomes.

This is the core of the programme. Households receive a regular payment for the part they play in keeping nature intact. The payment is made up of six criteria, and a member receives the amount for each criterion they meet.

Community Projects

Investments in supply-side initiatives to complement the Natural Dividend.

A payment only helps if there is something worth spending it on. Community projects build what the island is missing: housing, energy, waste systems, schools. The dividend changes what people can afford. These projects change what there is to buy.

Education, Training and Skills Development

Development of human capital to support livelihoods and ecological stewardship.

Payments and infrastructure only last if people can carry them. This pillar builds the knowledge that keeps the rest standing, from how a forest is managed to how a small business is run.
